On his debut in the Opening Classic, Mathieu van der Poel immediately made his mark. The Dutchman attacked on the Muur van Geraardsbergen and rode solo all the way to the finish in Ninove. With that performance, Van der Poel adds Omloop het Nieuwsblad to his impressive palmarès. Van Dijke and Vermeersch joined him on the podium.
