Omloop het Nieuwsblad in Ninove until 2028

Road  26/02/2025

Omloop het Nieuwsblad will also finish in Ninove for the next three years. This was announced by Mayor D’haeseleer and Flanders Classics during the recording of Wielerclub Wattage in Ninove.

Next Saturday, the Flemish cycling spring will traditionally kick off in Ghent, and we will crown the successors of Jan Tratnik and Marianne Vos on the Elisabethlaan in Ninove. That final detail will remain unchanged at least until 2028.

Tomas Van Den Spiegel, CEO of Flanders Classics: “This is the perfect news to get even more excited about our opening classic. We are very happy to continue our partnership with Ninove for the next three years. The finish, along with the final featuring the Muur van Geraardsbergen and the Bosberg, has defined the identity of the first European WorldTour race for several years now. We are thrilled to keep building on what we have achieved together in recent years.”

“Ninove is a cycling city, and we must cherish that, not just because of the Tour of Flanders or Omloop het Nieuwsblad," says Mayor Guy D’haeseleer. “On a sunny weekend day, you’ll see dozens of amateur cyclists riding through the streets of our city and surrounding districts. Ninove simply is cycling. That’s why we find it only natural to continue committing ourselves to hosting Omloop het Nieuwsblad. For the next three years, the finish line will once again be painted in Ninove. Omloop is a special race, primarily because of its iconic climbs, such as the Berendries, the Bosberg, and the Muur, but also because it marks the official start of the cycling season. We are proud of this prominent place on the cycling map.”

Omloop het Nieuwsblad for the cycling fans

3. Flanders Classics puts on a treat – A happy hour from 11:30 to 12:30 at ’t Kuipke in Ghent to celebrate the 20th edition of the women's opening classic. The bar will be open for all attending fans, on the house!

4. Charity Collection Drive – Sport Vlaanderen and Kringwinkel have launched an initiative to collect second-hand sportswear. Flanders Classics proudly supports this cause and invites cycling fans and teams to bring cycling apparel they no longer use to ’t Kuipke in Ghent. Teams will have the opportunity to donate their gear on stage, while fans can drop off clothing in a dedicated collection box at the Floraliënhal. The collected clothing will be handed over to Kringwinkel Gent, giving everyone access to affordable sportswear and the joy of movement. This initiative will continue beyond Omloop het Nieuwsblad.
