The list of women who have won the opening classic twice includes three Dutch names. But a Swedish rider did even better. Until now, she has been the only one to win the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad in two consecutive years.
Suzanne de Goede (Zoeterwoude, 16 April 1984) won the first women’s edition of the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, then still the Omloop Het Volk, in 2006 at the tender age of 21. In a bunch sprint, she took the race from her compatriot Mirjam Melchers and the German Tanja Hennes. Three years later, she won the Omloop again. De Goede succeeded this time again in a sprint beating the Italian Noemi Cantele.
Emma Johansson (Solleftea, 23 September 1983) is one of the most successful women in the history of the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad for women. The Swede finished on the podium of the opening classic no fewer than five times: she won the Omloop in 2010 and 2011, came second in 2014 and finished third in 2008 and 2013. In her first victory in the Omloop, she sprinted to victory for the Red Sun Cycling Team leaving behind Liesbeth De Vocht and Grace Verbeke. One year later, it was another win after a sprint: she won the opening classic for a second time in a row, this time for Hitec Products UCK.
Anna van der Breggen (Zwolle, 18 April 1990) is one of the most successful cyclists of her generation. In 2015, she won the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad for the first time beating Ellen van Dijk and Lizzie Deignan. In 2021, her farewell year, she repeated that feat. The Dutch finished solo in Ninove.
Annemiek van Vleuten is one of the greatest riders in cycling history. Van Vleuten has won no fewer than three of the six Flanders Classics spring classics. In 2020, she won the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad for the first time. The Dutch rider crossed the finish line solo in Ninove. Two years later, she made it two victories in the opening classic by beating Demi Vollering in a sprint.
